STD Screening
What is an STD?
STD (sexually transmitted disease) is a disease or infection transmitted through sexual contact.
How do I know if I have an STD?
Many STDs are silent; you may not have symptoms at all. However if you have any of the following, you should contact your doctor immediately:
- burning sensation when urinating
- itching
- unusual discharge
- genital sore
- cramping pains unrelated to menstrual cycle
How do I get tested for STDs?
If you are coming to Preventicum for one of our Check-Ups, our doctor will be happy to discuss STD testing with you, which can usually be carried out on the same day and will be subject to an additional charge. We also offer a stand-alone STD screening service - please contact us on 020 7605 6900 or email info@preventicum.co.uk for more details.
Although sexual testing and screening can be intimidating, it is vitally important to have frequent sexual health Check-Ups. A blood test, urine sample or a swab will be taken by our doctor and sent to our laboratory for analysis. All appointments and results are completely confidential.
What STDs can Preventicum test for?
- HIV - includes counselling
- chlamydia
- HPV testing
- gonorrhoea
- syphilis
- mycoplasma
- ureaplasma
- thrush,(candida) and cystitis
- hepatitis A, B, C
- non-specific urethritis

How much do the tests cost?
STD tests start at £75 and we can combine a number of tests including high tech urine analysis for STD DNA, which is highly sensitive for detecting infection. Please contact us on 020 7605 6900 or info@preventicum.co.uk for more information. All enquiries will be treated sensitively and kept confidential.
When will I get my results?
Your blood sample, urine sample or swab will be sent straight to our laboratory for testing. Some results take up to two days.
Is there a treatment for STDs if I am diagnosed with one?
STDs like chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis are curable, while diseases like HIV, HPV, herpes and hepatitis B are treatable.
If you test positive for an STD, the next step is to consider further testing and then to get treatment as recommended according to your results. We are able to advise you on where to go for treatment and further consultation
What if I have an STD and leave it untreated?
If left untreated, STDs can lead to long-term consequences like infertility, long term pain or in some cases, cancer.
