MRI Scans

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses a magnetic field to provide extremely accurate images of the body, so there is no exposure to ionising radiation. MRI scanning is based on the representation of the magnetic characteristics of water protons, which exist in large numbers inside the body. The basis for the examination is provided by a strong magnetic field inside the tunnel of the MRI scanner.

After your MRI scan, you will be shown all the images as one of our Preventicum Radiologists delivers your results and takes you on a virtual tour of your body.

OUR MRI MENU

ANGIOGRAPHY

Three-dimensional images are of such high quality that they allow accurate diagnosis of stenosis (vascular narrowing) and aneurysm (vascular enlargement), as well as subtler vascular changes.

BRAIN IMAGING

The brain is scanned with several MRI imaging sequences, all in 10 to 15 minutes. These sequences provide advanced images of the entire brain from various perspectives. Firstly, the smaller cerebral arteries are scanned to rule out stenosis and aneurysm and then the brain tissues are examined.

CARDIAC IMAGING

MRI imaging of the heart primarily assesses the function of the cardiac muscle and valves. Your doctor will have valuable insight into the pumping action of your heart and will be able to confirm if the valves are functioning correctly.

Body parts

We can add additional ‘body part’ MRI scans to your assessment where required although this may not take place on the same day.

AMRA

AMRA transform over 1800 MRI images from a 6-minute whole-body MRI scan, into 3D-volumetric fat and muscle measurements. AMRA® Profiler enables outstanding accuracy and precision when assessing volume and distribution of fat and muscles, as well as metabolic status

Perspectum

A specialised, new high-tech MRI scan creating detailed maps of your liver, highlighting damage from either fat, inflammation or iron overload. LiverMultiScan is a very accurate, highly visual, patient-friendly report on your liver health.

Results & Virtual Body Tour

Our highly experienced, on-site Radiologists will take you on a virtual tour viewing hundreds of personalised MRI scan sequences, including a video of your beating heart. Images are shown on a 55” LCD, ultra HD screen in exquisite detail and you will be given a copy of these images to take home with you.

Case Study – Chiari 1 Malformation

‘A HR director in her her early 40s came for an Ultimate Assessment with a tingling sensation in her hand and face… MRI scans revealed that the lower part of the brain was pushing down on the spinal column which in turn had caused fluid build-up. We performed an MRI scan of her spine immediately.’

Case Study - Large Brain Aneurysm

‘A property director in his early 40s with generally good health, had an Ultimate Assessment. MRI brain scans showed a large brain aneurysm measuring approximately 11mm across. The pros and cons of intervention were thoroughly discussed and considered, including coiling the aneurysm versus open surgery.’
