Dr. Schuhwerk qualified as a doctor in 1991 from the University of Saarbruecken in Germany and has been practising in the UK ever since. She brings 22 years of experience as a clinician with her, having worked in a variety of medical specialities. She initially trained in General medicine and then spent 2 years in oncology before starting to specialise in Infectious Diseases, Travel and Genito- Urinary Medicine (GUM). She spent 8 years, from 1997 – 2005, at the world-famous hospital for Tropical Diseases in London until she finished her speciality training in GUM and HIV medicine at University College Hospital in London. Her research area is in travel medicine in immuno-compromised hosts and she has co-authored the British Vaccine guidelines for HIV positive individuals. Dr. Schuhwerk has been working in the private sector in the last few years, having developed a keen interest in Health Prevention as well as working as a Consultant in GUM medicine.

Prior to becoming a doctor, she had spent one year in Switzerland training as a linguist and she is fluent in German, English and French. She has also worked in India, Spain and France during her medical training where she developed a very keen interest in tropical and travel medicine.
